I just watched “9 Songs” which is the mainstream (but x-rated) movie that this gif is from (which BTW looks much, much, better on a 50in tv screen than it does here). 

It’s a very simple piece really, about nothing more than two people in a relationship which you know from the begininning of the movie, is going to end. There’s a lot of real sex, music, smoking, drugs & more real sex, interspersed with some fairly dodgy dialogue and some nice footage of Antarctica, but overall there’s just a feeling of melancholy. And so when the relationship comes to an end, it’s really no surprise, as you always knew it would.

But it was still sad and i still cried.

Love is just too fucking hard to bear sometimes. 

I haven’t seen it (though I should - it’s Michael Winterbottom, yes? he’s one of my fave directors) but I’ve been enjoying the gifs and screencaps from it whenever they appear on my dash (and there are many). I’d never thought about the narrative context they might be from and how melancholic it might be. The gifs from this film are  pretty much the most erotically, beautifully *real* sex gifs around. I never think ‘happy ever after’ when I see them, just marvel at the apparent connection between the couple and how it is caught in a moment. when I think too that another of my fave gifs is actually from what turned out to be a rape scene in Spring Awakening, perhaps the sexiest imagery often comes from an emotionally darker context than straight-out porn.
